Today, we began to introduce our next unit on Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird by getting a sense of what life may have been like for Americans during the 1930s, specifically in Alabama (as this connects to the context of the novel). Looking at the 'Golden Age of Hollywood' in film, food/drinks, music, housing/transportation, geography, and political/cultural climates, we then discussed in groups and as a class the impact of the Great Depression on the livelihood of people during this time period--how (surprisingly?) invasive it was on all aspects of life. I want to thank everyone for their engagement with today's activity and group presentations!

For homework, please read Ch. 1 of TKAM for next class.
